Classic Poems for Children

We shared a dose of classic with our younger club members this month, with our first ever poetry card featured in Yoto Club. Classic Poems for Children is a beautiful collection of 36 children’s poems, filled with timeless rhymes from beloved British poets and authors such as Lewis Carroll,  A.A. Milne, Edward Lear, Hilaire Belloc, and Kenneth Grahame.

Dance with a lobster, telephone an elephant or knock on a moonlit door.

From The Jumblies, The Owl and the Pussycat, Old Mother Hubbard and more, this collection brings magic and macabre, dramatics and hilarity, absurdity and delight, and everything in between. With its soothing rhymes and rhymes, it’s a must have for bedtime and family listening.

This card is a wonderful way to introduce young minds to poetry, and share some of the best-loved, timeless poems that have been enjoyed by generations alike. Poetry evokes many emotions - and we hope this charming collection inspires some new little future poets, and some memory sharing and nostalgia for grown ups.

Dragon Tales
Kenneth Graham, Edith Nesbitt

Look out! Four fiery and fearless dragon tales came flying into the April Club Packs this month for our younger listeners, each packed with excitement, adventure, and plenty of mythical magic!

These stories are reminiscent of the traditional, Medieval fairytales we love so much, filled with princesses, witches, far-away lands, and of course, dragons! But these dragons aren’t the usual fairytale monsters, they’re unlike any that you may have heard of before…

Have you ever heard of a dragon who adored poetry, and just wanted to write in his cave? Or another who had an appetite for hippos? Or the one who was baffled by the strong will of a princess? Brought to life with music and sound effects, these fire-breathing tales are all about dragons with a difference.

With over two hours of audio, this collection card includes the much-loved classic The Reluctant Dragon by Kenneth Graham, as well as three delightful tales from Edith Nestbitt -  The Island of the Nine Whirlpools, The Fiery Dragon and The Last Dragon.

Songs Across the Pond
David Gibb and Brady Rymer

This month, our older kids received Songs Across the Pond, a brand new music card packed with transatlantic, collaborative family music from three-time Grammy Nominee Brady Rymer and UK BBC Folk Award Nominee, David Gibb!

The music centres around making new friends, sharing unexpected discoveries and creating joyful music together. Featuring twelve tracks, each carefully composed to take you on a musical journey -  beginning with ‘Hey There’ and ‘Two Towns’, and winding down with ‘Twistin’ the Night Away’ and ‘Happy to be Going Home’ - this card is sure to help you start the day off right, and get your body bopping!

We love this album here at Yoto! Carefully composed as a ‘family’ album, these catchy tunes will be enjoyed by children and adults alike. Trust us, you won’t mind these ones becoming ear worms.

Anne of Green Gables
L.M. Montgomery

We’re so excited to have another much-loved character joining our Yoto family - Anne Shirley. Anne (with an E!), is a young orphan with red hair, a vivid imagination, and an inability to stop talking. When she’s adopted into the Cuthbert household, she quickly causes quite a stir! Will she manage to win the hearts of those who think she’s up to no good?

This classic tale is one of the most enduring favourites of children’s literature. Set in a small village in Canada at the beginning of the twentieth century, this abridged audio version, with wonderful narration by Liza Ross, will make you feel like you’re walking through the winding hills of Avonlea yourself as you listen.

Filled with funny anecdotes and silly mix-ups, this story is just as entertaining as it was when it was first published. Anne’s trials and tribulations teach important lessons of honesty, understanding, and kindness, while reminding us it’s okay not to be perfect. She’s delightfully relatable, and sure to be treasured by generations to come.

If you like the sound of these titles, and want to receive brand new Yoto cards before they even hit the card store, sign up to Yoto Club and receive your own Welcome Pack, as well as monthly deliveries of exclusive audio, activities, and other goodies.
