Free Ways to Entertain the Kids over Half Term

Keeping the kids entertained during school holidays can be a challenge. But being short on cash doesn't equal being short on ideas!

 

With Yoto, there are so many things to see, hear, and do this February Half Term for both younger and older kids—and not one of our suggestions will cost you a penny.

 

Gather some paper, felt tips and crayons! Get your little one to draw you a self-portrait (oh, and try not to get too offended).

 

For older kids, why not try our Flags of the World card. Draw a flag of a country you'd like to visit.

 

Time to put your boots on and head out on a family adventure. What can you see? Are there any signs of spring? Remember to document your adventure!

 

Or, try listening to Poems out Loud and write a poem about love in recognition of Valentine's Day!

Wednesday 15th February: Soundscapes

We've added three mystery soundscapes to the Yoto App. Listen closely… Can you guess the sound you’re hearing? Where does this soundscape take you and what are all the different sounds that make it up?

To set up a good treasure hunt, make sure the treasure isn't easy to find! You'll want to set up clues along the way to make the experience as fun and enjoyable as possible.

Sunday 19th February: Creative Writing
Time for some imagination exploration. At the top of the Faraway Tree, what land would you like to find?

 

For older kids, listen to a Mr. Gum story and come up with the next character he meets...

 

Monday 20th February: Clean Up, Beach Smart!
Head to your local beach or riverside to collect and dispose of as much rubbish as possible. (We promise, it'll feel good!)

 

Tuesday 21st February: Shrove Tuesday
Arguably one of the best days of the year. Pancake Day! Pick up our Baking with Yoto: Banana Pancakes card and get flipping.

 

Wednesday 22nd February: Favourite Animal
What's your favourite animal? We challenge you to find out five interesting facts about your chosen animal and draw your best picture of one!

 

For older kids, learn and write down three key facts about somebody who inspires you. As a starting point, try The Extraordinary Lives Collection on Yoto. Have your grown-up test you on your newfound hero...Mastermind style!

 

Create your own hopscotch board at-home, learn your numbers, and have fun! (Grown-ups, that means you, too!)
