Creator Q&A

Tell us about yourself

I live in Chicago. I perform and make music for kids full time. I tour around the country. Before that, I used to be a special ed teacher when my daughter was young. That was really hard. After I quit teaching, honestly, I didn't quite know what to do next. I started performing for kids in the neighborhood and taught parent / toddler classes at the Old Town School of Folk Music. I started recording music. And I've been busy ever since making music and performing. I'm proud that my song "Ube" was one of the first representations of Filipino American culture on Sirius XM Kids Place Live. I'm also proud to have performed at places like the Getty Museum (LA) The Jewish Museum (NYC) SXSW (Austin) Lollapalooza Kids Stage (Chicago) and beyond!

What inspired you to make this title(s)?

So Many Ways are songs mostly from my EP "Welcome Spring". It's also some added songs that I felt would fit in with this mix. I love to write songs that people want to sing. I write songs that kids and grown-ups can remember the words to the chorus and then sing along. I like to write songs that have a strong melody. Songs like "I Like Rice" and "Welcome Spring" bring smiles and joy to your family and inspire kids to dance and sing!

Who do you imagine listening to your audio?

I know that I have a unique sound and unique voice. My songs at times can be soft but it also rocks sometimes. Sometimes it's folk music and sometimes it's punk. My music is simple at times but sometimes complex. It's quirky and random sometimes. Overall, it's authentic and from the heart. If those are things you want you child to experience, then you may like my music.

Is there anything different about making audio for Yoto listeners?

I've been making kids music for a long time. A lot has changed over the course of my career. We've gone from CD's to streaming music. Over this time, parenting has involved more screen time for many. As a former teacher, I love that Yoto has introduced a. way to listen and be inspired by music as an alternative to screen time. I am new to Yoto so I am excited for what's ahead!

What’s next?

I have two kids music bands - Little Miss Ann and Birds of a Feather (with Suzi Shelton). We will be recording a second album together.
